In 2011, I began pursuing publication. In 2015, I signed with my first agent and in 2018, we parted ways and I'm currently seeking new representation. You can find tips for writers along with lists to help you laugh about the process in my For Writers section.

As a writer, I work alongside Annette Lyon to publish IN OMNIA PARATUS: LIFE IS SHORT. WRITE WELL. where we write essays about Gilmore Girls, specifically analyzing the writing. We will be presenting the information found in Stars Hollow is Real to Me as part of the faculty for Storymakers 2022. I have also taught as part of the faculty for the American Night Writers Association conference.

I have a masters in education and child development, which I initially pursued to help me better homeschool my special needs children, but which ended up helping me land a job as a music teacher in 2015.

(unfortunately, when you're a band and orchestra director, every photo a parent takes of you is actually of your backside...)

My experiences in the classroom, my own education, and my love for teachers and schools helped to shape my views on the American education system. I am currently querying my non-fiction book, UNPAID: HOW AMERICA'S EDUCATION SYSTEM RUNS ON WOMEN'S UNPAID LABOR, based in large part on the research I did for my master's degree, summarized here and here and here.

My family has experienced poverty and I'm not ashamed of it. In fact, I often write about my experiences in poverty, along with my experiences in motherhood, as a woman living in the patriarchy, and a member of a marginalized religion.
